What 50 Years in Business Means To Me

2014 marks the 50th anniversary of Pond Roofing and Exteriors. For the last half century, we have been a company committed to providing quality service to the residents of North Virginia.

I celebrate the existence of this company, I celebrate its reputation, I celebrate the staff that makes it work like clock work, but most of all, I celebrate our wonderful customers.

Being in business for 50 years is an exhilarating feeling not just because of the awards and recognition we have earned, but more importantly we have made the experience of dealing with home service contractors a pleasant experience.

When my dad died in 2000, I took over the company.  It was a daunting experience to provide leadership in an industry where I knew so little.  However, what I knew for sure was that customer care was the most important aspect of the business.  Pond already had an outstanding reputation, but that was not enough: we needed to exceed our customer’s expectations. Today we have grown our business to include not just roofing and repair service:  we have also added siding, windows and doors to our list of services.  Our reputation continued to soar, and in 2011 we were named the Roofing Contractor of the Year award by the Virginia Association of Roofing Professionals.

I recognized that so many residents had really bad experiences from dealing with contractors, and from the time we pick up the phone and make an appointment with a potential customer, we have systems in place to make the experience easy while providing the best workmanship possible.  When we get phone calls, letters and e-mails from our customers saying what a pleasant experience it was to deal with a professional company, I swell with pride because we are meeting our goals.

Being in business for 50 years means you learn a lot, you give a lot, and you don’t relax your standards for a second.  We are pleased because we have 2nd and 3rd generations of families that we have served over the years. Because we have been in business for so many years, we encourage our customers to call us when they need contractors for other projects.  Since we have been in business for so long, we know who the contractors are who have the same integrity that we do, and we will not make a recommendation unless we have seen their work.  We want our customers to feel comfortable in asking us for advice and referrals because we are invested in their home and want to be sure they are well taken care of.  Our customers are members of our family for life.

As I reflect back on the years I have been here, I like the way we have continued to grow:  our reputation is impeccable, our customer care is excellent.  When I see a Pond Roofing truck on the road, my heart swells because we have such a satisfied customer base. I am proud of our accomplishments.  I am sure my dad is smiling down on our achievements and standards, and that is golden to me.
