There is More than One Type of Shingle

asIt doesn’t matter if you have a flat roof or something more traditional, it’s important to realize that nothing lasts forever. For this reason, it’s a good idea to fully understand the many types of shingles.

Here is a breakdown of the most common types of shingles:

1. Asphalt. Generally the most common, these shingles are inexpensive, when compared to others, and come in a variety of styles and colors.

2. Tile. These shingles are most popular in southern states, however, they have made their way to other parts of the country over the past five years or so. Tile shingles are among the most expensive, thanks to the material and unique appearance.

3. Metal roof. This is not a typical shingle, but instead a covering for your entire roof. If you have a flat roof, for example, metal is a commonly used material.

4. Wood. Due to their natural appearance, many people prefer wood shingles over asphalt. These can be made of many types of wood, such as redwood and cedar.

5. Slate. Extremely popular in the Northeastern region of the United States, these shingles are among the most durable, often lasting 40 to 50 years.
