What are the Advantages of a Flat Roof?

Nov 18, 2015

It is a common misconception that a flat roof can cause a homeowner a variety of problems. This may not be common in today’s homes, but it is not necessarily a bad thing.

The primary advantage of a flat roof is the ease of accessibility. Once you make your way to the roof, as long as the structure is sound, it’s like you are walking on the ground. There is no (or little) slope to contend with, which makes it much easier to navigate, such as during an inspection.

Another benefit of a flat roof is the cost to install and maintain. Many people think this type of roof is prone to leaking, but this is only true if it is installed poorly and without the appropriate material.

At Pond Roofing, for example, we install EPDM rubber on all low-slope and float roofs. With this synthetic membrane in place, you don’t have to worry about areas of pooling water causing you trouble.

Last, but certainly not least, a flat roof will give a home a unique appearance from the outside. If you like modern homes, you will probably enjoy the look of a flat roof.

Do you own a home with a flat roof? Are you thinking about buying one? Contact us for more information on the pros and cons. Furthermore, we can inspect the roof to ensure that it is in good condition.
