What To Do if Your Roof is Damaged in a Storm

What To Do if Your Roof is Damaged in a Storm

May 27, 2015

It doesn’t matter where you live. It doesn’t matter how much you hope for good weather. There will come a time when a storm rolls through your area. At that point, all you can hope for is that your home withstands the rain, high wind, hail, and/or snow.

Severe storms can cause roof damage. While this isn’t the worst thing that could happen to your home, it isn’t something you want to ignore. Instead, you need to assess the damage and determine which steps to take next.

Here are four steps to take if your roof is damaged in a storm:

1. Identify what happened. Depending on the type of home and the view of your roof, you may be able to do this on your own. A wind storm, for example, could tear shingles from your roof.

2. Call your insurance company. If the repairs will cost more than your deductible, you will need an adjuster to determine how much the insurance company is going to pay.

3. Schedule repairs. It is best to hire a roofing contractor for this step. There are many risks of doing your own repairs. Not only could you hurt yourself, but you never know if the job was done right.

4. Prepare for the future. Speak with your roofing company about what you can do to better prepare your roof for future storms. You may find that you are having trouble because your roof needs to be replaced.

If your roof is damaged in a storm, don’t hesitate to contact us for professional assistance. We can visit your home, tell you exactly what happened, and provide an affordable solution.
