Why are Your Trees Dying?

Wednesday, August 30th, 2017 - Post by Pond1920

There is nothing more frustrating than planting a tree, just to have it die several weeks or months later. The same holds true if a long standing tree begins to die off for no apparent reason.

It’s important to understand the many reasons why trees die, as this may help you avoid this problem in the future:

·      Accidents. This can include everything from a severe storm to vehicle damage. If this happens, you need to know which steps you can take to save your tree from extensive damage and even death.

·      Soil compaction. Compacted soil can lead to a slow and steady death, as the tree doesn’t get enough oxygen to survive.

·      Poor planting process. There is a right and wrong way of planting a tree. You can’t simply put the root ball in a hole and hope for the best. Follow the instructions as outlined by the nursery.

·      Over or under watering. Too much water or not enough water can be harmful to a tree. This is particularly true with those that were just planted. Take special care in regards to watering.

With this information in mind, you can do your part in keeping all of your trees alive, healthy, and looking their best. It may not be easy, but it’s better than the alternative.
