Wood Replacement

Wood Replacement

Jun 28, 2013

One of the most frustrating aspects of replacing a roof is when we find that sheathing is bad and must be replaced.  Wood replacement is really the only unknown left in our work orders.  We don’t like unknowns any more than our customers.

The best case scenario for us is that the sheathing is fine.  That is also the best case for the homeowner as well.  Rotted wood causes production delays, costs customers extra money, and is just bad news that we would rather not have to deliver.

During our estimate, we walk the roof and look for obvious areas where there is rotted plywood that must be removed.  We really do not know the full extent of the damage until we take the old roof off, but there is really no choice other than to replace the bad plywood.   To cover over bad wood defeats the purpose of replacing the roof.  Additionally, shingle manufacturers’ warranties require that shingles be nailed to a suitable deck or your warranty is invalid.

We are not plywood salesmen, but we are roofing experts.  Every decision we make with respect to your property is made with integrity so that you know that you made the right decision when you hired us.
