How to Spot Hail Damage on an Asphalt Roof

May 21, 2021

Along with warmer weather, the spring and summer months bring the potential for hail storms. And when that happens, all you can do is cross your fingers in hopes that your home escapes damage.

Asphalt roofs are prone to hail damage. If you suspect this, here are some signs that that can confirm your thoughts:

•    Loss of granules

•    Random damage

•    Hail hits are black in color

•    Hail hits are generally soft to the touch

•    Shiny spots on your shingles

If left unrepaired, hail damage can result in serious issues in the near future. For example, if roofing felt is now showing through the shingles, water could soon find its way into your home.

Don’t hesitate to contact a roofing contractor if you suspect hail damage. They can inspect your roof, make note of any problem areas, and make repairs on the spot.

Tip: Contact your home insurance company to see if your policy covers hail damage.

Let’s hope that serious hail storms stay away from the area this spring. But if they don’t, cross your fingers and hope that your roof makes it through without any damage.
