Are Your Windows Leaking? Find Out Why
You expect your home’s windows to keep the elements on the outside looking in, but this doesn’t always happen. There could come a point when you realize that one or more window is leaking, which is a major concern as a result of the damage it can cause.
Generally speaking, leaking windows are the result of one of the following:
· Poor design: For example, if you don’t have a large enough overhang over windows, they may come in contact with too much water. When that happens, there’s a greater risk of rainwater entering your home through the window.
· Poor installation: Installing windows is anything but a DIY job. If done improperly, there’s a good chance that a leak will eventually develop.
· Damaged caulking: Over time, the caulking surrounding the window will become damaged as the result of exposure to Mother Nature. Fortunately, replacing old caulking with new isn’t the most advanced job.
· Cracked window: It’s difficult to crack a modern window, but it can happen. And if it does, the chance of a leak is much greater. If you notice a crack, it’s best to replace the window as soon as possible.
It’s easy to overlook the seriousness of a window leak, as it only poses a problem when the rain begins to fall. However, don’t put this on the backburner. The sooner you address the issue the better off you’ll be.
