Do These Things to Stop Cool Air Leaks in Your Home

Do These Things to Stop Cool Air Leaks in Your Home

Oct 24, 2018

With cool air quickly moving into the area, it’s time to prepare your home accordingly. This means something different to everyone, but there’s no better time of the year to search for cool air leaks.

By taking care of these now, you can save yourself quite a bit of money on heating costs during the fall and winter months. Not to mention the fact that it makes for a more comfortable living environment.

The first step in stopping air leaks is to identify the problem areas. This is easier said than done, but here are some of the most common sources.

·      Attic opening

·      Wiring holes (such as those where cable lines enter the home)

·      Plumbing vents

·      Furnace ducts

·      Basement rim joists

·      Recessed lights

·      Entry doors

·      Windows

It may take several hours to pinpoint all the sources of cool air leaks in your home, but once you do so you’re in business. At that point, you can decide on the best remedy.

For example, if your old windows are giving you trouble, it may be time to replace them. The same holds true with an entry door.

If you want to keep cool air on the outside, where it belongs, this advice should put you on the right path to doing so.
