How Long Do Asphalt Shingles Last in Virginia?

Aug 06, 2021

As a homeowner in the state of Virginia, there may come a point when you have questions about the long-term durability of your roof. In other words, you need to answer this question: how long do asphalt shingles last in Virginia?

This depends on a variety of factors, including but not limited to weather conditions, workmanship, and materials.

Asphalt shingles are designed to last 15+ years, with the possibility of 30 – 40 not out of the question. But again, this depends largely on the type of shingles you purchase, the manner in which they’re installed, and the weather conditions they’re subjected to.

Furthermore, there’s the potential for damage, such as the result of hail, strong wind, or debris.

When buying asphalt shingles, work with your contractor to find the best product at a price you can afford. It’s tempting to “go cheap” as a means of saving money, but it’ll cost you in the long run if you plan on staying in your home for many years to come.

All in all, you should expect your asphalt roof to last a minimum of 15 years. However, you could find your roof in need of repairs before that or standing up nicely to the elements year after year.
