How to Prevent Ice Dams This Winter

How to Prevent Ice Dams This Winter

Oct 08, 2021

Ice dams have the potential to damage both your roof and gutters, so it’s critical that you do your part in preventing them this winter. Of course, this is easier said than done. After all, you don’t exactly have a good look at your roof from the inside.

On the plus side, there are several simple steps you can take to help prevent ice dams from forming on your roof this winter. Here’s what you should do:

•    Ensure that your roof is properly vented so warm air can escape your attic

•    Clean your gutters or install a gutter protection system before winter weather arrives

•    Insulate your attic floor so that warm air from your home doesn’t enter your attic

•    Clear snow off your roof, especially when a big storm hits the area (it’s best to hire a professional)

These are just a few of the many steps you can take to prevent ice dams from forming on your roof this winter. If you neglect to do this, it could take a toll on both your roof and gutters, thus causing you a variety of problems inside and outside your property.
