Tips for Cleaning Roof Shingles

Tips for Cleaning Roof Shingles

May 22, 2019

Over time, your roof shingles have the potential to become extremely dirty. From inclement weather to leaves and branches, your roof takes quite a bit of abuse.

It’s important to clean your roof every so often, as doing so can help increase its lifespan.

Here are some tips for cleaning roof shingles:

·      Mix bleach and hot water

·      Add the mixture to a garden sprayer

·      Spray the cleaner on the roof, one section at a time, and let it sit for 10 minutes

·      Scrub the section of the roof that has the cleaner on it

·      Use a garden hose or pressure washer to rinse the cleaned area

Depending on how much dirt and debris has accumulated on your roof, it may be necessary to consult with a roofing contractor about the next steps. It’s possible that you’re better off opting for a new roof, as opposed to cleaning your old one.

If you come to find that your roof shingles need cleaned, follow the tips above or hire a professional to tackle this project on your behalf. Either way, your roof will look better when the job is complete.
