There’s nothing more frustrating than trying to sleep at night or work during the day, just to hear your vinyl siding make one strange noise after the next. From pops to creaks, you wonder what’s causing it and how to eliminate it.
There are many potential causes of this annoying problem, including but not limited to:
• Expansion and contraction: As temperatures change, vinyl will expand and contract. With that, you can expect to hear cracking, creaking, popping, and more.
• Loose siding: If your siding comes loose for any reason — even if it’s only one piece — it can cause strange noises, especially when the wind blows.
• Improper installation: There’s a right and wrong way to install vinyl siding. If it’s not installed per manufacturer specifications, there’s a greater chance it’ll become noisy. And unfortunately, that may be the least of your problems.
Also, as your siding ages, there’s a greater risk of it becoming noisy. If you suspect this, it may be time to replace your old vinyl siding. You may even want to consider fiber cement siding as a means of preventing these same noises from coming back down the road.
