What to do if Your Roof is Leaking

You hope you never have to contend with a roof leak, but this is a common occurrence. If you find yourself in this situation, there are a few key steps you should take:

• Minimize the damage: Regardless of the cause or size of the leak, it’s important to minimize the damage until you can find a permanent fix. For example, if a missing shingle is the culprit, do your best to replace it until you can get a professional to your home.

• Contain the water: For example, if water is leaking into your attic, use a bucket to contain it and stop it from damaging the interior of your home. Even if it means removing the water after every storm, it’s better than the alternative.

• Turn to a professional: DIY roofing is not recommended. Not only is it dangerous, but if you don’t know what you’re doing you may not fix the problem in the appropriate manner. Subsequently, your “fix” could cause more harm than good.

So, there you have it. Should you find yourself dealing with a leaking roof, take these three steps as quickly as possible. Soon enough, your leak will be a thing of the past and your home will once again be bone dry.
