Why Won’t Your Window Open?

Why Won’t Your Window Open?

Apr 05, 2019

As the spring season approaches, it’s safe to say that you’ll want to take full advantage of the warmer weather. For many, this means opening their home’s windows to let in fresh air.

Unfortunately, you may come to find that one or more window in your home doesn’t open. In this case, you should immediately pinpoint the problem with the idea of fixing it once and for all.

There are many causes of this problem, such as:

·      Bad paint job: If paint dries in the area between the sash and the jamb, you can be rest assured that opening it will be very difficult. Fortunately, once you shimmy it open, you can then use a blade to remove the paint and restore functionality.

·      Damp sashes: This typically leads to the swelling of wood, which results to difficulties opening the window. The most important thing to do now is determine where the rain is coming from, such as poorly installed or broken flashing.

·      High humidity: This isn’t a common cause, but it could be the issue you’re dealing with. For example, if the window is in a high humidity room, such as a bathroom, it’s something to consider.

If you come to find that your home needs new windows, don’t delay in learning more about your options. Once you have new windows in place, you can once again bring the fresh air indoors!
